Recently, the US Department of Defense reported to Congress that if Turkey does not abandon the purchase of the S-400 air defense missile system from Russia, then Turkey may face the exclusion of the US-led F-35 fighter production project.
On December 1, the Anadolu news agency (Anadolu) reported that the US Department of Defense report was submitted to the US Congress in early November. According to the National Defense Authorization Act of fiscal year 2019, the United States suspended the sale of F-35 fighters to Turkey before the US Defense Department reported on the issue of Turkish-American relations.
According to the report, the report pointed out that if Turkey does not give up buying the S-400 system, it will reconsider its continued participation in the F-35 fighter production project as one of the eight partner countries. Prior to this, under the leadership of the United States, many countries participated in the development of the F-35 project, Turkey joined the project in 2002, and intends to buy at least 100 F-35 “Lightning II” fighter.
