Q: On February 23, Beijing time, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2139 on the humanitarian issue in Syria. what opinions do the Chinese have on this issue?

A: China is highly concerned about the humanitarian situation in Syria and sympathizes with the suffering of the Syrian people. We welcome the adoption of Security Council resolution 2139. This resolution reflects the common expectations and demands of the international community to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Syria. The Chinese side participated in the consultations on the draft resolution in a positive and constructive manner and voted in favor of the vote.

China urges the Syrian parties to take concrete measures to fully implement Security Council Resolution 2139 and ease the humanitarian situation in Syria. We support the international community to continue to uphold the principles of neutrality and impartiality, abide by the UN humanitarian guidance principles, and provide constructive support for the implementation of Resolution 2139.

Relieving the humanitarian situation in Syria depends fundamentally on the political settlement of the Syrian issue. China urges the Syrian sides to adhere to dialogue and negotiations, actively cooperate with and support the mediation efforts of the Prahimi Joint Special Representative, and continue to talk until the outcome is reached.
